Ireland - Clare Education Centre & Ennis Community College
Clare Education Centre is responsible for in-service training for all 140 schools in County Clare at both Primary and Post Primary Level. The in-service is delivered in a variety of ways – these include day release for teachers, evening classes and on-line resources. The Centre has been involved in many EU-projects and currently hosts 2 projects on its website – www.clareed.ie
In addition to its in-service remit the Centre is the National Administrative Centre for the School Leadership Programme, The Maths Recovery Programme and the Leaving Cert Applied Programme. These programmes are run nationally at suitable venues by the staff of the Centre. The Maths Recovery and the Leaving Cert Applied programme are particularly relevant to pupils who are in danger of leaving school early . In different ways both programmes attempt to make the curriculum more suitable to this type of pupil. Maths Recovery attempts to bring up standards in pupils who are in danger of falling behind or those who are failing and the Leaving Cert Applied programme has re-written many subject areas within the Leaving Cert Exam to make them more practical and connected to the workplace. The involvement of Clare Education Centre with these National Programmes gives us a very thorough insight into the issues around pupils who dropout.
Personnel at Clare Education Centre have many years experience of running Projects and making appropriate arrangements for conferences.
